Blog Post #1: Wikipedia

Due February 5th

Wikipedia is one of the major destinations on the web people go in search of information on the past. For this blog post, find and read a Wikipedia article related to your topic. Then, write a review of that Wikipedia article in a blog post that addresses the following points:

  • Content: Does the article provide what you feel is a quality summary of the historical subject? How is the information organized? Are there things that are included or excluded that surprise you?
  • Sources: Does the article have what you feel are robust sources? What kinds of sources does it reference? You do not need to go through every single source, but you must include your overall impression and mention at least ONE specific example of a source used by the Wikipedia article that you think is reliable (or not).
  • Discussion: Wikipedia articles are written collectively by anyone who wants to participate. Review the discussions Wikipedia editors have had about your article by going to the “Talk” page. (Can’t find the Talk page? Scroll down for some help.) In your blog post, describe one of the points of discussion. Why do you think this discussion happened? Do you think a solution was found?
  • Be sure to include the link to your chosen Wikipedia article!

Your blog post should be 2-3 paragraphs long. Once you’ve completed and posted your blog post to your blog, submit this assignment by posting a link to your blog post to the #week-03-wiki channel on our class Slack.

Finding the Talk Page of a Wikipedia Article

Every Wikipedia article has an associated Talk page. In this screenshot, I’ve highlighted the location of the Talk page with a red circle:
